About 40 Below

40 Below is a non-profit organization of young professionals and community members with a passion for local revitalization and unparalleled dedication to Central Upstate New York. This organization acts as a vehicle for members to pursue passions, make changes, instill a sense of pride in the community, and promote the region as a vibrant place to live, work, learn and play.

On November 12, 2004, more than 630 young professionals, artists, entrepreneurs and community members came together for one of the largest young professionals’ summits in our nation’s history. These individuals gathered in Syracuse, NY, where they shared their creative visions for the future and suggestions for regional improvement. Out of this summit came 40 Below, a forum for young voices and a vehicle for meaningful change.

Since its inception, 40 Below has hosted five regional summits and a statewide “We Live NY” summit with other young professional groups. It now consists of three unique task forces: Public Arts, Civic Engagement, and “It’s All Here!.” The organization functions under a 22-seat steering committee, populated by individuals who are representative of the diverse membership base of 40 Below.
